UKISCRS...your national society.
UKISCRS exists to promote education and research in the field of cataract and refractive surgery and to advance and promote the study and practice of ophthalmology and research and the dissemination of the useful results thereof. We aim to innovate, integrate and interact with all our members and wider ophthalmic community.
With this objective at the forefront of the Society aims, the council of UKISCRS (formed of our Trustees, Officers and elected council members) are excited to present the details for our next three meetings.

The Cornea & Cataract Day
The Bristol Hotel, Bristol
Thank you to everyone who attended the Cornea and Cataract Day. The sell-out audience were thrilled with a full day of interactive education. Early delegate feedback is stating that the interactive panel sessions were as educational and complete as the didactic lectures.
The programme included sessions on: 'Premium Lenses in funny eyes' chaired by Navpreet Dhillon & Mario Saldanha, 'Glaucoma & Cataracts' chaired by Laura Crawley & Tom Flynn, 'Refractive surgery and dodgy corneas - what are my options?' chaired by Seema Anand & Andrew Turnbull and the and the highly entertaining 'What really winds me up - A rant with a learning point' chaired by Allon Barsam and our President Elect, David Lockington. The programme can still be viewed here.
This is the second year that the Cornea & Cataract Day has reached capacity, and new venues with options for increasing our audience numbers are currently being reviewed by the council. We circulated an extensive delegate survey after the meeting to ensure we are listening to the needs of our members, and delegates, and we will plan future meetings in 2025 & 2026 around this feedback. It is highly likely that the 2025 Cornea meeting will return to it's May date, ahead of the RCOphth Congress, in Liverpool. Details will be announced.
Join us in celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the British invention of the IOL in London this November. This extremely special and prestigious anniversary Congress will be a celebration of Sir Harold Ridley and the invention that has changed cataract surgery and ophthalmology forever. The programme is an eclectic ensemble of everything good & great within ophthalmology. It will delve into our rich history, look at current practice and ask where will we be in another 75 years .
Wednesday 27th November is dedicated to our Young Ophthalmologists (YOP) and will be supported by an incredible faculty. Day One of the main programme on Thursday 28th November will be delivered by some of the UK and Irelands' leading names with subjects covering: 'Best of UK & Irish Societies', 'Learning to survive and thrive', 'Worst nightmares of the UK & Irish Societies' and 'The Best of the Trainees Free papers/videos & posters'.
Day two on the anniversary of the IOL, Friday 29th November, is presented by a 'Rest of the World' faculty and asks...
- 'What will cataract surgery look like at the 100th anniversary celebration?' Moderated by Prof. Filomena Ribeiro.
- 'How Cataract surgery has changed?' Moderated by Prof. Vance Thompson.
- 'Technology that Sir Harold didn't have 75-years ago'. Moderated by Prof. Pannet Pangputhipong

UKISCRS do believe that this 48th Congress will be the cherry on top of the 2024 ophthalmic calendar and will be an 'Unmissable' event. We will be limited to 450 delegate places, so be sure to reserve your place when registration opens. We look forward to seeing you there!
